Your tires, my tires, our tires… No, it’s not the motorcycle’s tires, it’s ours, the ones we have around our hips and abdomen, and which sometimes have more pressure and sometimes less. Let’s say that they can be directly linked to some festive times of the year, such as Christmas or New Year’s Eve.
But why did I decide to talk about this, if I have no training in nutrition or similar? The answer is simple: If we plan to take a longer trip on a motorcycle, physical condition is definitely an important factor in both driving performance and passenger behavior, which ultimately can have an influence on the safety of both.
By this I mean that we should have a training plan that doesn’t necessarily have to be complicated. The driving or passenger position is demanding on certain parts of the body and large muscle groups, and the effort accumulates after several consecutive days on the bike.
Although for the sake of health and well-being we frequently practice physical activity, when we plan a longer trip, we dedicate more time to the parts of the body that will require the greatest effort during that period.
It feels good to enjoy the trip without pain or discomfort due to the accumulation of hours and kilometers on the bike!
For example, who has never had their butt hurt after some hours of travel? A good glute workout helps a lot!
Likewise, not only is preparation important, but during the trip, maintaining physical condition is also imperative. Normally, at the end of each day, some stretching exercises are “mandatory” to feel in perfect shape for the next day.
But no less important is the fact that, in the event of an accident, physical build can make a difference in the consequences of a fall. A more robust body “protects you better” in the occurrence of an impact.
Therefore, when you are planning a trip, don’t just prepare the motorbike. Prepare yourselves too and it’s not just with the material and equipment.
Having a healthy body is essential for everything to work well.
Enjoy your long rides.
