THE TORQUE AGE

You know, it is my conviction that the expression that there is an age for everything is misinterpreted! It usually applies when someone says: I really wanted to do this or that, but Ahhhh, what nonsense. I’m too old for these things!

And he stops there, not thinking about it anymore. WHY? Why not find a different way of doing what gives us pleasure? If I like running and I’m not young enough to run 100 meters like I used to, I’ll run 5,000 or 10,000, but what I like is running!

One day, to a family member who has always had a passion for speed and adrenaline (favorite motorcycle, HONDA CBR 1100XX Blackbird) I said: one day you must find a different way to feel the power of the engine. Sometime later he decided to try it and, EUREKA!!! He discovered the pleasure of enjoying the torque at low rpm and the guttural, bursting roar of the engine. Oh, how these can be equally as exciting and fun as the scream of a more powerful engine at a higher rpm!

The cherry on top of the cake is that with this option you also minimize risk and enjoy each trip more.

Once, a friend of mine who was a speed racer, decided to go together with us on a ride/lunch, with his Aprilia RSV MILLE motorbike, beautiful! When we arrived at our destination, around 40 km later, I approached him and commented: You must be desperate with the slow speed of this trip, so on the way back, if you want to go at your own pace, feel free. It was then that he told me: no way, I loved it! I’m tired of going through this route and there are so many things I’ve never seen! I’ll be back with you to see the rest. This amidst some genuine laughter.

It should be noted that the place we visited and where we had lunch should be among your options: ALDEIA MINEIRA DO LOUSAL, near Beja. It was an iron mining village that was completely restored to its original design. Where the warehouse was, there is currently a restaurant, where the mine’s Power Station was, there is the museum. There are also local crafts and an auditorium where you can watch a documentary with real images of work in the mine. It’s a day very well spent. I leave the tip.

Currently, this friend of mine has left the competition and enjoys the road on a less fast, but equally powerful and comfortable bike. He also discovered the pleasure of what I like to call, the torque age!

This could be a way of thinking and facing the normal evolution of life in all its aspects, in a way that is as realistic as it is pleasant, enthusiastic and challenging.

If someone tells you, as someone has said to me: when I’m seventy, I’ll buy a motorcycle like that! Forgive him because he never tried it!

Enjoy your ride and be happy.
