Summer is the time of year that I call “silly season”, a time for silly people, in which the risks on the road increase exponentially.
As the weather conditions are more favorable, this is the time when many drivers, of cars and motorcycles, take their “treasures” out of the garages.
Nothing against it, some are even worthy of being admired.
The problem is usually between the steering wheel and the back of the seat in cars and between the handlebars and the seat in motorcycles.
To parade your treasures through the streets, you don’t need to behave in such a way that instead of causing admiration, they cause indignation and even repulsion. Absurd accelerations, roundabouts burning tires that cause a horrible smell of burning rubber, engine raters that besides being annoying, scare the little ones, in short, the bullshit is free to show that mine is bigger than yours (motorbike)…
In my understanding, this is not an easy behavior to combat.
Obviously, most of these behaviors are prohibited, but it is impossible to have a law enforcement officer on every corner, as other more urgent and serious situations take priority.
This is a time that combines a set of conditions in which behaviors and reactions feed on themselves.
So, let’s see. These individuals engage in these behaviors in places where they have an “audience”. This is the principle of exhibitionism (show-off). As in summer there are more people on the streets, in terraces or gardens, for these individuals the public is assured! As people either look on in admiration (yes, there are still some) or indignant, the goal of getting attention is assured. Whatever the reason, people end up looking!
The only way to try to combat this type of behavior is to show indifference, ignoring these attitudes. But obviously it’s not easy.
I confess that many times, when an individual passes by, making engine raters and bothering everyone, he captures my attention. But I don’t look, I simply watch over to realize if, finally, that poor engine breaks down!
How many times, at night, is the preponderant noise of the car or motorcycle accelerating, up and/or down the avenue, usually with the exhaust systems changed to increase the noise? And at roundabouts, in the morning, when we notice that there are new scratches on the asphalt, but they are not white signs! They’re black rubber, the kind of spin out.
Unfortunately, sometimes, because of exaggeration or lack of experience, some people lose control of their vehicles and accidents happen.
As drivers or pederstrians, we must double our attention, try to foresee the maneuvers that will be made and, ultimately, why not, avoid passing through some places where we know that these “activities” normally take place.
It is by maintaining our posture and conduct that we show that those exhibitionisms have nothing to do with the way of being of responsible citizens, who enjoy living in society.
Enjoy your ride
