ELITISM OR AFFIRMATION

Currently, in our society, more and more entities, groups, associations, etc. are appearing, in which a large part of them share ways of being, lines of thought, forms of conduct, ideals or other particularities of a whole that makes up our day-to-day life. -day.

Our motorcycle world is no exception, with the emergence of Motorcycle Clubs or Motorcycle Groups or Motorcycle Associations, which look more like mushrooms in damp terrain!

Of course, diversity and the possibility of multiple choices is enriching and desirable. But in my understanding, this only happens when the difference adds something new or some added value that did not exist with the “existing offerings”.

When the reason behind the creation of new entities is linked to Elitism or Affirmation, then for me, it is already questionable.

By Elitism, I am not referring to, for example, single-brand Groups or Clubs, as it is an exclusivity inherent to those who chose to acquire/drive the same model or brand, and it is their particular taste that unites them.

I am referring specifically to groups that imply a social stratification in the members that can constitute it, for example in a certain professional activity. In these cases, even though each individual is unique, the inherent richness of sharing and coexistence between people from the most varied origins, but who share the same passion, tends to disappear.

As for what I call Affirmation, I refer to those people who for some reason become angry or no longer feel comfortable being part of a Club to which they belong.

Instead of giving constructive critique with the aim of improving, they decide to create their own right there on the next block, just out of spite or in an attempt to destroy the other. Either because it is difficult and requires work or because, as is often said, if that were the case the credit would go to those who implement it and not to those who had the idea.

Unfortunately, this way of being is observed in any area of activity, because everything is made up of people…

The pleasure of seeing an institution to which we belong prosper should outweigh the individual need for affirmation before others. But knowing how to act, even in the “shadows”, just for the pleasure of contributing to the common good, unfortunately does not proliferate.

I may seem somewhat pessimistic in my reflection, but I am indeed saddened to see that more and more people are allowing themselves to be infected by the virus of selfishness and self-affirmation.

I have a wish for 2025, that in this area too, we can make a difference and honor what is called the Motorcycle Spirit.

Enjoy your ride
